“Last week we were lucky enough to join Paralympian Evie Edwards at her regular training session in our Community Centre. Evie is a world-class boccia player who will soon be flying off to Japan with her eight teammates to compete for Team GB at this year’s games!”
Boccia is a Paralympic sport which has no Olympic equivalent. The athletes kick, throw or use a ramp to shoot a ball onto the court with the aim of getting closest to the white ‘jack’ ball. Each side has six balls, one plays with red and the other plays with blue. The balls are relatively soft and are designed to roll but not bounce. The team who get the most balls closest to the jack ball win the game.
