A new App called 999 BSL has been launched to enable deaf people to get emergency help from their local police, ambulance, fire and coastguard services instantly. The Royal Deaf Association have made a video explaining how 999 BSL enables emergency calls to be made through a BSL interpreter, providing a ‘UK Emergency Video Relay Service’. The emergency SMS service has been developed by Action on Hearing Loss, BT, Cable & Wireless, the Department of Communities and Local Government, OFCOM, the UK emergency services and all mobile network operators. What is emergencySMS? If you cannot make voice calls, you can now contact the 999 emergency services by SMS text from your mobile phone.
