What is LeDer?

The NHS has reported people with a learning disability often have poorer physical and mental health than other people.  They need to understand why so that they can make a difference to people’s lives.

One of the ways they are finding out this information is by looking at the cause of death of someone with a learning disability. The Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership have set up a program called LeDeR. LeDeR stands for Learning Disabilities Mortality Review.

This is a very heavy subject but it is an important one. LeDeR gets all their information from families who have lost a loved one. By notifying LeDer of a death it helps the researcher to understand more of why it happened and what health care providers could change in the future if it was preventable.
